MANATI LODGE



Manati Lodge is a small and charming jungle hostel located in one of the most beautiful regions of the Negro River, area of Ubim and Acajatuba Lakes. Within the Sustainable Development Reserve of the Negro River in the Acajatuba Lake, on the right riverbank of the Negro River far 60 kilometers from Manaus, habitat of great diversity of flora and fauna in the Amazon.

The Acajatuba Lake has several creeks and canals, connecting this part of Negro River to its neighbor the Amazonas River, receiving a strong influence of muddy waters making the excellent place for eco-tourism. Due to the high acidity of its waters, particularity of the Negro River, the proliferation of insects, including the causes of diseases such as yellow fever and malaria, is very low. Anyway we recommend the use of repellents and sunblock, always.

The transfer to the lodge departs once a day at 09h00 am from hotels of Manaus. The transportation is performed in two parts: first part by during 1:0o hour by AM070 highway, crossing the Bridge of Negro River and 2nd part in motorized canoe with duration of 45 min until the loge. The transfer back to Manaus hotels departs from the lodge at 2 PM by the same way.

Children's Policy Only children older than 6 years are accepted):
From 6 to 11 years older - 50% discount of the individual rate.

Luggage limit: Maximum 10 kg luggage per passenger (Backpack or small case).

The packages include: The transfer Hotel in Manaus/Manati Lodge/Hotel in Manaus, all meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) and all tours listed in the package chosen (guide Portuguese or English speaking).
It DOES NOT include: Drinks in General, travel insurance and other services not mentioned as included.
* The visitation rate in the River Dolphins must be paid directly by the visitor (R$ 15 per person), entering or not into the water. The activity includes the interaction with the botos and "pesca" of the pirarucu (Amazon fish, the largest pece of freshwater flakes in the world).

What to bring: Light and comfortable clothing (long pants and tennis shoes or boots to walk in the woods, Bermuda to other activities, sandals or flip-flops, bathing suit, sunscreen, flashlight, binoculars, mosquito repellent, sunglasses, hat or CAP and raincoat. Payment of extra expenses (drinks, souvenirs, etc...) only in cash.

The structure of the Manati Lodge resembles to the houses bordering the region.
There are 6 standard room for till 4 people in one double bed and bunk-beds and 3 superior chalets for 3 people in one queen-size bed and one single bed.
Each room has private bathroom air-conditioner, fan and balcony with hammock, viewing to the river and to the forest.

Manati Lodge facilities are covered with straw and covered with mats of vine, which makes fresh even in warmer weather. THERE IS NO ELECTRIC SHOWER.

The restaurant is small, also covered with straws. It uses to be a Caboclos House before the hostel construction. Although simple, the guest will be conquered with our regional cuisine fish-based dishes, like the famous Pirarucu, one of the giants of the Amazonian rivers that can reach up to 2 meters; the delicious Tambaqui, the local people preferred in 'stew version' - kind of fish soup with potatoes and eggs; and the best of all: Tambaqui grilled roasted.

Our intention is to give life and a more human approach to activities. The local guides or 'mateiros' are always from surrounding communities, so visitors have a closer contact with residents of the region with its way of life and behaviors, and also, because we believe that this is one of the ways to contribute with the development of tourism of sustainable basis, in order to be socially and economically inclusive not forgetting, however, the environmental factor.

Harpia (3d/2n)

1st day

Departure from hotel in Manaus at 09h00 h by car passing by the Black River Bridge for to AM070 Highway for 1 hour. In the way to the lodge, you can see several farms and potteries (brick factories), the main economic activity of Iranduba town. Then, we will take a motorized canoe for more 45 minutes during the flood season and 1:30 hours drought. During this exciting part, we will pass by 'furos' (channels) and locals houses. Upon arriving at the hotel we will be greeted with a refreshing welcome juice and then accommodation. At 12:00 pm, a delicious lunch and soon after we will have an Amazon pause to rest until the 04:00 pm when we leave in the canoe paddle for our first ride of the day. Know the igapós (flooded forest) where there will be a great chance to see animals like monkeys and sloths. Return to the lodge around 5:30 pm where we wait for the dinner will be served at 19:00 h. After dinner, we leave in motorized canoe for the second tour of the day: night spotting. On this tour we will have possibility to see caiman and other nocturnal animals. Return to the lodge for overnight.

2nd day

7:30 am regional breakfast consisting of fresh fruit and other items of Amazonian cuisine. 09:00 am departure in canoe to the place for the interpretative trail in the forest, where we will meet part of the rich Amazonian biodiversity through various plants and native trees, some with cosmetics and other purposes even for medicinal purposes. Return to the lodge around 11:30 am for lunch. As usual, a rest and then, at 04:00 pm, leaving in motorized canoe to a fun fishing to know the feared piranhas. We return to the Lodge at the end of the day, waiting for dinner to be served at 7:00 pm. After dinner, the opportunity to join the guests for a discussion and exchange of experiences or games. Overnight.

3rd day

5:30 wake up with the birds and go out for a walk to see (if the weather permits) the beautiful sunrise on the Negro River. These images will stay for long in your memory. Opportunity to see birds and other animals. Return to the lodge for breakfast. At 09:30 am, exit in canoe to our last and most exciting activity of the Pousada, to see our river dolphins (freshwater Dolphins), or more commonly known as "pink Dolphins". You will have the opportunity to get in the water too close, or better, to touch these gentle animals, excellent opportunity to buy souvenirs, photos and videos. Return to the lodge around 11:30 am for lunch. At 02:00 pm return to Manaus.

Still tasting the famous tapioca with Brazil nut. In the afternoon, when the Sun is more amenable to embark again on Canoe toward the quiet community of Nossa Senhora do Perpétuo Socorro or known simply as Acajatuba village. This small community despite being the largest within the Lake currently has 54 families scattered on an island surrounded by the waters of the Lago Acajatuba. Meet the owner Marlene and her family who were the first residents of the community, the Craft Center, which helps the community to have an extra income through the manufacture of handicrafts. We're going to do even a stroll through the village to meet the health and school, whose classes are taught via the internet. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

4th day

After breakfast, exit in canoe to our last and most exciting activity of the Pousada, to see our river dolphins (freshwater Dolphins), or more commonly known as "pink Dolphins". You will have the opportunity to get in the water too close, or better, to touch these gentle animals, excellent opportunity to buy souvenirs, photos and videos. 4th day

Today we will have the opportunity to meet the Indigenous community of Sateré Maué Indians, the Sahuapé village. These Indians originated in the region of the lower Amazon and are the creators of the guaraná culture, they came from their native villages in search of a better life for their families and today live in a community that has approximately 14 families spread in malocas and who gather around the main shed for the common meals where it is used to make the beautiful crafts that they make available to visitors, remember to take some money if they wanted to acquire them. After the presentation of the community with "indigenous pharmacy" and the school where the native language and Portuguese are taught, the students will make a small presentation of greetings to the visitors. In the return to the hostel pause for a delicious and fun picnic on the beach of Jacare and recreation opportunity on the beach with the right to contemplate the sunset on the Rio Negro, a scenery to never forget.

5th day

After breakfast, exit in canoe to our last and most exciting activity of the Pousada, to see our river dolphins (freshwater Dolphins), or more commonly known as "pink Dolphins". Meeting of the Rivers (5d/4n) - Manati & Boat

1st day

Departure from hotel at 9h00, by car during 1 hour by AM070 road, passing by the Negro River Bridge, on the way it is possible to see several farms and potteries (brick factories), this is the main activity of the municipality of Iranduba. We will pass from the car to the motorized canoe for another 45 minutes (or 1h30 if in the dry period between October and January). This exciting part of the route can already be considered as a true tour, as we will pass through areas of flooded forests, canals, holes and riverside houses. Upon arrival at the Lodge we will be greeted with a refreshing welcome drink and shortly after we met our accommodations. For lunch, you will taste delicious specialties from the Amazon. After some free time to relax, you will embark around a 15:30 a canoe and you will paddle through the "igapós" and the flooded forest to find wildlife such as sloths and various species of birds and monkeys. It will also be an opportunity to get close to the famous piranhas during recreational fishing. Return to the Lodge around 6:00 p.m. where you will have free time before dinner at 7:00 p.m. After a tasty meal, you will embark again on the motor boat for an evening walk. You will have the opportunity to see alligators and other nocturnal animals. Back to the lodge and overnight.

2nd day

After delighting in our regional breakfast consisting of fruits and other items from the famous Amazonian cuisine, we will embark at 9:00 am in a canoe to participate in a discovery trail. You well know part of the rich ecosystem of the Amazon rainforest, including several species of plants and trees, some with medicinal properties and others used in the manufacture of cosmetics. Return to the Lodge around 11:30 am for lunch. Time for rest and at 3:30 pm, we will embark in a canoe to visit a "House of Flour". You will discover in this unusual place, as the caboclos prepare cassava flour, which is a ubiquitous food on the tables of the Amazonian families. Finally, enjoy the famous Brazilian nut tapioca. Return to the Lodge at dusk for dinner at 7:00 p.m. After the meal, you will spend a relaxing evening, for example, a card game or a board game.

3rd day

Just after breakfast, you will continue your stay for an adventure out of the ordinary. You will embark on a regional boat to descend the Rio Negro towards Manaus, but will make several stops to carry out different activities. However, in the morning you will discover the most exciting activity of your stay. You will go on a fascinating encounter with pink dolphins, the famous "Red Botos" or "Pink Botos". You will have the privilege of getting into the water and staying very close to this docile animal. It will be a great opportunity to shoot and take souvenir photos. At the end of the morning, the boat will cross the Rio Negro and dock in the area called Jaraqui. Depending on the time of year, you will have the opportunity to swim in a beautiful waterfall (dry seasons). You will have time to take a new excursion in the forest to observe the Amazonian fauna.

4th day

We will wake up in the waters of the Solimões River where you will discover a completely different ecosystem of the Rio Negro, with also very rich fauna and flora, there are, for example, in the river, more than 2,000 species of fish. Navigate the muddy waters of the Rio Solimões, where bankers have access to abundant fishing and a variety of agricultural products, which are sent to the city of Manaus to be sold in markets and supermarkets. After breakfast, you will sail in the channel "Xiborena", being very narrow, will allow you to observe closely the lazy and different species of birds and monkeys. You will also see typical houses in huge trunks of Assacu, a kind of tree used for the manufacture of floating houses. You will arrive at the end of the day at Lake Janauari, where you will spend the night aboard the boat.

5th day

In the morning you will visit the lake "Vitórias Regias" and you will discover the tree "Sumaumeira", one of the highest in the Amazon forest trees that can measure up to 60 meters high. You will board the motor boat to discover the surrounding natural areas. You will then have lunch and after the meal return to Manaus.

Meeting of the Rivers (7d/6n) - Manati & Boat

1st day

At 9:00 am we will meet our guide in the hotel and we will leave in a vehicle until the port of Manaus, place from where we will leave in our regional ship Lady Mara. On the way we will have the opportunity to see the busy commercial center of Manaus with its fruit stands and the hustle and bustle of the famous Municipal Market built by the English in the beginning of the 19th century. We will board our air conditioned cabins and we will be presented to the crew that will accompany us during our adventure for a few days. Our guide will invite you in time for a quick visit to the market to meet the famous Amazonian fish, among them the famous Tambaqui and Pirarucu, the latter can reach up to 3 meters in length. Time to leave the port of Manaus with a privileged view of the old port and other historical monuments of the 19th century, symbol of the richness of the golden age of rubber. Our destination is the Rio Negro, we will start up the river and our next stop is the Seringal Museum, this beautiful scenery of nature located on an arm of the Rio Negro, in Tarumã Açu served as a set of recordings for the Brazilian film "A Selva "Which traced life back to the rubber plantations in rubber timber. We will meet the big house and all its luxuries, the poultry shed, the chapel, and walk along a trail inside the forest to get to know the workers' livelihood at that time. We will end the visit knowing the trapiche and the way the "pelo", or rubber balls were stored. Back on our boat we will continue our journey and we will pass beautiful beaches of white sand where, depending on our time of vigem, we can stop for a fun picnic with the right roasted fish. We will end this day contemplating the beautiful Amazonian sunset on the Rio Negro considered one of the most beautiful scenery in the world.

2nd day

After breakfast, our next destination will be the Indian community of the Tatuios Indians, where we will visit a true Indian maloca and we will have the opportunity to know its rich traditions with the presentation of dances and rituals. In the place there is the possibility of buying authentic handicrafts made by the Indians, a good option for buying souvenirs. Continuing the trip, we will go up the river towards the Bay of Boiaçu, considered the widest part of the Rio Negro with approximately 22 km of extension and soon after we will reach Paraná do Ariaú. Considered a place with rich biodiversity for interconnecting the Solimões River to the Rio Negro, this region congregates diverse species of birds and other animals like monkeys of smell and others. Overnight on board.

3rd day

Soon we will arrive at Lake Acajatuba, a region that makes up the RDS of the Rio Negro, being one of several conservation units along the Rio Negro. In this place we will spend the next days of the trip exploring and knowing the diverse attractions of this reserve untouched and preserved to the maximum by its inhabitants, the true guardians of the forest. During the flood season (from March to July) it is possible to explore the "holes", which are natural shortcuts in the middle of the river passing through the flooded forest, this is an excellent opportunity to see animals. At the end of the afternoon we will arrive at the Manati Lodge, where we will be greeted with a refreshing Welcome drink and then we will know our accommodations. In followed a delicious dinner by the Chef.

4th day

Day dedicated to the exploration of the surroundings of the hotel, with exit with possibility of seeing animals like monkeys and sloths. After dinner we will leave in our motorized canoe for a challenging nightly focus. In this tour we will be able to see some animals of nocturnal habits like owls and alligators.

5th day

After delighting in our regional breakfast consisting of fruits and other items from the famous Amazonian cuisine, we will leave in our canoe to the place where we will take a walk on an interpretive trail in the forest where we will know part of the rich Amazonian biodiversity through several plants and trees some with cosmetic purposes and others for medicinal purposes. Return to the lodge for lunch. As usual, after our well-deserved rest of the afternoon, we will leave in our motorized canoe for a recreational fishery where we will meet the queen of the lakes and Amazonian rivers: The famous piranhas. We will return to the lodge at the end of the day and wait for dinner.

6th day

At 5:30 p.m. we will awaken to the birds singing and we will leave in our motorized canoe in order to see and admire the beautiful Amazonian sunrise, surely these images will be kept a long time in his memory. Possibility to see birds and other animals like porpoises. Return for another lovely breakfast, after which we will leave by canoe to visit a Flour House, you will discover how the caboclos make this, which is a ubiquitous food in the Amazonian homes, you can still taste the famous tapioca with chestnut (if the time of this). In the afternoon, when the sun is cool, we will embark again in our canoe towards the quiet community of Our Lady of Perpetual Help or better known as Acajatuba Village. This small community despite being the largest of the lake counts approximately 54 families scattered on an island surrounded by the black waters of Lake Acajatuba. We will meet Mrs. Marlene and her family who were the first residents of the community, the Handicraft Center, which receives help through courses from various NGOs and associations to help the community to have an extra income through the manufacture of handicrafts. We will also tour the village to get to know the health center and the school.

7th day

After our wonderful morning breakfast we will leave by canoe for our last and most exciting activity, let us meet and be enchanted by the red porpoises, or better known as the pink-colored boto. You will have the opportunity to get in the water and stay very close, or rather, touch this docile animal, excellent opportunity for videos and souvenir photos. After this invigorating activity we will return to the lodge for lunch and shortly after 2:00 pm we will return to Manaus by the same route of arrival. Follow up to your hotel or airport.
